Life at Gray
Behind the scenes at Gray
Meet Gray.
With offices across the globe, our people are the bricks and mortar, the concrete and steel that continue to build Gray. We are a home for engineers, designers, construction professionals, site teams, and office teams who care about living our core values. It’s a team dedicated to our purpose of making a difference in people’s lives by creating unforgettable customer experiences and great projects. There’s a great deal of satisfaction in turning an empty plot of land into a high-tech facility.
At Gray, you can be part of an amazing team that does just that, turns visions into reality. Gray provides an exciting environment for team members to grow through opportunities to work with customers, such as Siemens, Kraft Heinz, Amazon, and Mercedes-Benz. Still, these areas don’t define Gray – its people do. Passion, commitment, and a great team spirit all speak to the people at Gray.
Development at every step.
Through our various training and development opportunities, we offer team members the ability to master their craft, educate themselves on industry trends, and grow their careers. In addition to company-wide trainings offered through Gray University, we provide professional growth opportunities through programming like Battlefield Leadership, our Project Managers Association, Design Managers Association, Field Operations team, Emerging Leaders Group, Gray’s Groundbreaking Women, and other internal groups and organizations. Gray provides mentorship and collaboration opportunities for all team members and even developed our own Leadership Academy to guide the company’s next generation of leaders into the future.
Training & Development at Gray
Together, we are family.
At Gray, there’s a deep meaning behind family. The Gray Family stands for our family-based business, our passion to preserve a culture we hold dear, our family of brands, and cultivating the lifelong friendships we build. We rely on honesty, discipline, and hard work. We believe our success can be attributed to upholding a simple set of core values that date back to the beginning of the company:
- We put safety and quality of life first.
- We are customer and relationship driven.
- We treat others the way we want to be treated.
As we’ve grown both organically and through acquisition, the Gray family of brands includes various companies whose capabilities augment and complement one another. Together, we sharpen one another’s skills, generate creative solutions, and execute as one team.
At Gray, we also believe in extending our core values beyond Gray’s walls by giving back to the communities where we live and work. Each year, the Gray Family supports worthy causes that promote community, culture, education, and youth. Our team members not only generously donate to community initiatives, but they also give of their time volunteering for organizations such as National Kidney Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, National Alzheimer’s Association, and American Heart Association.
Getting to know one another more closely creates memories that will last a lifetime! We make it a point to host many events throughout the year for the purpose of growing as a family. These include: our company-wide annual meeting, charity events, milestone anniversary celebrations for team members, the GrayMazing Race, holiday parties, college football tailgates, and more.
Work hard, play hard
Diversity makes us stronger.
Gray believes strongly in building a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse workplace. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we’re focused on a broad set of initiatives designed to recruit and retain a workforce that reflects the diversity of our customers and communities. Everyone at Gray is family. And in this family, we value everyone. Although we are always working to improve in this area, Gray has made great strides in advancing women in the industry. The exciting news is the construction industry is diversifying, and opportunities for women are expanding. Gray is committed to being at the forefront of this movement. In 2019, two of our team members were named to Constructech magazine’s 2019 Women in Construction list. Allison Lewis, operations business analyst, and Valan Daniel, BIM/VDC specialist, were recognized for their innovation, passion and ability to leverage technology in the construction industry.
Another key focus of our recruiting efforts is engaging with various military organizations. In addition to being our nation’s heroes, military servicemen and women bring a wealth of skills and professional traits to any organization seeking world-class talent. Whether it’s leadership, collaborative thinking, teamwork, or the ability to act quickly under pressure—they’re armed with aptitude and equipped for success. Gray has a deep respect for these heroes, and we always strive to honor and uphold them as well as engage with them for opportunities within the Gray Family. As a tribute to the military personnel and their families, we actively engage with organizations like Save A Warrior (SAW) and Children of Fallen Patriots. Since our involvement with SAW began in 2017, Gray’s partnership with the organization has made a difference in the lives of many of our nation’s heroes. In just a few years, there were 53 new cohorts and nearly 600 participants, varying in age from 20 to 71.
