Growing the Business

This expansion included the design and build of a new body shop, additions to the existing assembly shop, and relocation of the campus’s energy center, which enables flexible production options for the facility The result is a total area of 1,588,454 s.f. that supports the plant’s production of its next generation luxury SUVs, including hybrid versions. The new body shop alone totals more than 1.3 million s.f.

Gray and BL Harbert also had to work through various logistical and technology hurdles at this facility. The plant required numerous upgrades as a part of the work done for this project. While the work was significant, Gray and BL Harbert demonstrated careful and deliberate planning to ensure the existing plant, which is adjacent, remained operational throughout construction.

The expansion spurred significant manufacturing growth in the area from various automotive suppliers. For instance, German automotive supplier MöllerTech, also a Gray customer, built a 150,000 s.f production plant in Bibb County to manufacture interior parts for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
