Complex Efficiency at its Best
This 489,905 s.f. plant and office complex was built on the campus of Siemens’ existing Steam Turbine and Generator Service Center. With this facility, Siemens expanded its existing steam turbine and generator manufacturing site, now producing the world’s most efficient gas turbine.
The facility was designed based on lean manufacturing practices, which means it was built nearly 100,000 s.f. smaller than would have been needed a generation ago. It was also built according to the U.S. LEED green building standards.
This facility had the honor of being highlighted in President Obama’s 2012 State of the Union address as an example of how Siemens helped to lead the charge to bring more manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.
Gray and Siemens have a history of producing successful projects together, and after receiving more than 80 inquiries, the German-based industrial giant chose Gray to provide design-build services for its Kansas location.
Siemens Energy, Inc., and Gray have worked together for more than 20 years. When it came time for the company to renovate more than 230,000 s.f. of existing space in a former Sony plant and construct a new 62,000 s.f. addition to the building, the company called on Gray again.
