Paul Kornman: Q&A with Senior Project Manager on Quality

Gray believes our success can be attributed to upholding a simple set of core values. At the top of list, you will find Safety and Quality. These principles lead us to fulfilling our purpose: to make a difference in people’s lives by creating unforgettable customer experiences and great projects. Many of those great projects are possible because of team members like Senior Project Manager Paul Kornman. We spoke with him about his experience at Gray and how he works to ensure quality in his role.

Can you tell us what your normal workday or “day in the life” is like?

“My job is to provide my team support in providing a safe and successful project to the customer, including the integration of Gray’s design, construction, and process services.”

What does Quality mean to you?

“Quality should be a constant that is held at the forefront but occurs in the background. Quality happens quietly, as it doesn’t require attention during install, warranty, or a decade later – but it fuels unforgettable customer experiences.”

How has Gray’s Quality program changed since your time at Gray?

“Our Quality program has changed as our services and markets have changed. However, our expectation for quality and level of quality hasn’t wavered. The growth of the company, available technology, and additional services– including turnkey process and equipment fabrication– have required us to adapt and ensure the quality that Gray has always brought to the table remains.”

Explain the role of technology as it pertains to Quality.

“Above all, technology has provided the opportunity to have all critical information required for quality evaluation at our fingertips. Technology allows near immediate responses to anything that may come up in a remote setting of a jobsite, provides methods of tracking that create real time accountability to performance, and ultimately streamlines the number of people needed to handle success.”

What sets Gray’s Quality program apart from others in the industry?

“Gray’s focus on its core markets and high percentage of repeat customers within those markets have allowed us to build a program 100% tailored to who we serve. Allowing the entire of Gray to contribute to the continuous improvement of the program creates full ownership by all– as well as maintaining quality as a cultural trait.”
