Our Safety Program

Our dedication to occupational safety goes above and beyond OSHA requirements. We conduct company-wide trainings, set measurable goals, and stringently monitor our jobsites and field teams. Our safety record, including Gray team members and subcontractors, is over 50% better than the industry average. Still, we view even one incident as unacceptable. Our goal is always to make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of each day.

"The Gray Safety 7 shows what we all have known for years—an incident-free jobsite is not only beneficial to our workforce on the jobsite, but also ensures the opportunity for a continuing relationship with our customers."
Jim Grant, Chief Safety Officer, Gray, Inc.

A Culture of Accountability

At Gray, safety is everyone’s responsibility. Every team member has the authority to identify hazards, raise concerns, and stop work when needed. This shared accountability keeps everyone safe and reinforces a culture of care across all jobsites.

Daily communication, field engagement, and leadership visibility make safety a habitual part of our operations. By providing frequent positive examples and keeping safety present in every discussion, we empower new and veteran team members to understand, own, and improve our safety protocols.

Our Commitment in Action

Safety is lived, practiced, and reinforced every day. Through continuous training, our annual Trade Partner Safety Summit, yearly participation in Construction Safety Week, safety luncheons on every jobsite, and other initiatives, we empower every person on our sites to take ownership of safety—for themselves and for one another.

Because Safety Is More Than Physical

Construction has one of the highest suicide rates of any industry. At Gray, we prioritize mental well-being through awareness training, access to resources, and a culture of care that extends beyond the jobsite.

"You can’t put a price tag on safety. The switch to helmets has definitely enhanced our level of safety on the jobsite, which is the most important thing at the end of the day."
Ned Brown, Director, Safety

Our safety program is proactive and prevention focused. We prioritize risk management through ongoing training, regular inspections, digital reporting and analytics, and leadership involvement. Every site is continuously monitored to identify and correct potential hazards before they cause harm, keeping workers safe and projects on schedule.

At Gray, safety is more than a benchmark, statistic, or obligation. It’s the ultimate reflection of the value we place on people, from our team members to the subcontractors who work alongside us to the customers we serve. Every team member has the authority to stop work if they see a risk. This shared responsibility empowers individuals, strengthens teamwork, and minimizes downtime caused by workplace incidents.

Our safety teams perform routine audits, conduct safety assessments, and provide continuous education. This ensures full compliance with OSHA and customer-specific requirements while helping us exceed industry benchmarks for incident prevention.

Gray provides ongoing, hands-on training focused on job-specific risks like fall protection, equipment operation, and emergency preparedness. Our approach goes beyond one-time instruction and focuses on keeping every team member informed, confident, and prepared to make safe decisions on every jobsite.

A strong safety culture directly improves productivity, quality, and efficiency. A reduction in incidents results in fewer delays, lower costs, and more predictable outcomes. A safety program that aligns oversight with task sequencing gives our dedicated craft laborers and trade professionals the time and space they need to safely put great work in place.

Our teams perform regular hazard analyses, jobsite walkthroughs, and real-time monitoring. From heat stress awareness and PPE for working at heights to lock-out/tag-out protocols and best practices for operating heavy equipment, we proactively address risks before they escalate and implement solutions to ensure every site is safe and productive.

Gray recognizes that safety extends beyond physical hazards. Through mental health awareness training, access to resources, and a supportive work environment, we ensure team members are cared for on and off the jobsite.
