JR Latour: Q&A with Field Associate on Quality
At Gray, our purpose is to make a difference in people’s lives by creating unforgettable customer experiences and great projects. And at the heart of that mission is Safety and Quality. To accomplish these goals, we rely on all our team members, but when it comes to Safety and Quality, much of the weight is carried by the people on the jobsites every day. JR Latour is one of those people and works as a field associate for Gray.
We spoke with Latour about Gray’s Quality program, why it is so important, and how it compares within the industry.
What does quality mean to you?
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word “quality” is Gray’s No. 1 core value, “We put safety and quality of life first.” At the end of the day, we are managers and managers must make sure that their workers are going home safely every day and returning knowing that their safety and quality of life can be trusted on our jobsites.
How has Gray’s quality program changed since your time at Gray?
I have only been at Gray for a year, but in that one year I have seen noticeable changes. I have recognized even more effort and support towards organizing the auditing system for people in the field and in the office. I have also seen some new faces on the Quality team who are helpful and ready to get in the action and make a difference.
What role does technology play when it comes to Quality?
I believe technology has improved the quality of work being done. However, while technology can improve quality, I also believe it can be used to cut corners, which can in turn cause errors. Technology certainly has its place but so does traditional pulling the tape, so to speak.
What sets Grays quality program apart from others in the industry?
Gray has a very extensive Quality program with knowledgeable people on the Quality team who can answer almost any question you have. The help you get from the Quality team and their knowledge is one of the things that seems to set Gray apart from all others.
