Taking on New Challenges: Q&A with Office Manager/IT Administrator Tonya Mertz
At Gray, you’re expected to own every challenge– while upholding the highest standards. But, those expectations and opportunities don’t come without tremendous support from a team of incredible people. Tonya Mertz, office manager and IT administrator at InLine Engineers, a Gray company, is taking each challenge in stride. We spoke with her about joining the Gray family and how her role brings new opportunities each day.
Describe your normal workday––your “day in the life.”
“Every day is so different for me. It is one of the things I love about my job. I help our project managers with formatting documents, creating spreadsheets, transmitting documents, and creating project notes. I also help our team members with their day-to-day IT issues, setting up our equipment, and reviewing software. I assist with marketing and sales for our company. I am also the office manager for our Cincinnati office.”
What do you enjoy most about your work?
“I enjoy getting to help people every day. We have such a good team, and it is always nice to work one-on-one with them in my role. You get a chance to know the person a little.”
What has been your most memorable experience since being a part of the Gray Family?
“I think overall just seeing that Gray really is a family. You hear about the #GrayFamily. But, you really get a taste of it when you visit the office.”
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever been given?
“My dad always taught me that hard work pays off. I think that has always stuck with me, and I have applied it to everything I do.”
What do you think sets Gray apart from other service providers in the industry?
“I think Gray cares, and it shows. Safety is at the forefront of every project. Gray is the whole package, which means that they bring a lot to the table regarding projects. With all our teams working together, it allows us to do incredible work for our customers.”
In one word or phrase, how would you describe Gray?
What unique capabilities does InLine provide, and how do they complement Gray’s overall service offering?
“We have a very dynamic team of Food & Beverage engineers. Our team features diverse knowledge from all corners of Food & Beverage combined in one place. This team complements Gray’s already significant presence in the marketplace.”
If someone was visiting the Cincinnati area, what would you recommend to them as a “must-do?”
“Since Cincinnati is known for their chili, I would definitely recommend a stop at Skyline Chili. Also, if you like roller coasters, then a trip to Kings Island would be fun! Plus, it gives you a chance to try all of the Cincinnati favorites in one place: Graeter’s Ice Cream, Skyline Chili, and LaRosa’s Pizza.”
