“Since selecting our site location, we have been warmly welcomed by the Coldwater community and the state of Michigan,” said Doug Clemens, CEO of Clemens Food Group. “This was an immense undertaking for a family-based company, but with the strong collaboration between our producer partners, team members, and the local community, we are poised for continued growth and success here in Michigan.”
In 2015, Clemens broke ground on its new facility. Gray Construction, a leading design-build firm, was selected to partner with Clemens to perform the engineering, architecture and construction on the project.
“As a company with similar values ranging from stringent safety measures to a focus on teamwork, it has been a privilege to work with Clemens Food Group and see their new operation come to fruition,” said Stephen Gray, president and CEO of Gray Construction.
Throughout the construction process, the companies celebrated 1,000,000 safe man hours, which speaks to the strong collaboration between the entire project team.
The company headquarters for Clemens in Hatfield, Penn., will continue to operate at its current capacity. With the additional production of the new facility in Coldwater, Clemens will double its fresh pork business.
The facility will become operational in September and will create 830 jobs for the surrounding region.
The grand opening included an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, in which Michigan Governor Rick Snyder spoke along with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Representative Tim Walberg and Doug Clemens. Production facility tours showcasing the modern manufacturing practices of Clemens Food Group were a highlight of the festivities. Guests consisted of local government officials, producer partners, local community leaders, and Clemens family members.
