“We are proud to call Alabama our home and celebrate our commitment to North Alabama as our community” said President Ryuji Fujimoto. “We are pleased to partner with Gray Construction to commence building.”
Gray Construction was selected to design and build the greenfield facility. The project will involve 110,000 cubic yards of dirt being moved, over 22,000 cubic yards of concrete poured and nearly 3,000 tons of steel put in place.
“With our relationship with Toyotetsu running close to 25 years, we couldn’t be happier to be part of this new venture project,” said Stephen Gray, president and CEO of Gray Construction. “We look forward to seeing the tremendous impact this project will have on the region and the automotive industry.”
During peak construction, some 200 local jobs will be on site. YKTA will create some 650 new jobs and is expected to be operational in spring 2021.
The groundbreaking ceremony included an official “turning of the dirt” with special remarks from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey; Tommy Battle, mayor of Huntsville; Jason Black, Limestone County Commissioner; Ryuji Fujimoto, president of YKTA. Guests consisted of local government officials, partners, team members and friends.
