Gray’s Nick Walter Named 2019 Young Construction Engineer of the Year
Nick Walter, senior manager of Pre-Construction services for Gray, was honored Saturday, October 5th, with the 2019 Construction Management Founders Society’s Young Construction Engineer of the Year Award. The award was presented at a reception hosted by the University of Kentucky’s College of Engineering.
“Gray has a long history of supporting and investing in alumni of the CEPM program at UK, and Mr. Walter’s professional career is no different,” said Dr. Gabe Dadi, assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Kentucky.
“Mr. Walter started as an intern with Gray during his studies at UK and has quickly progressed to his current position of senior manager of pre-construction services. Along the way, he has received many honors and awards including several from Gray’s customers, which is a testament to his integrity and ability to deliver. We are excited and proud to honor Nick Walter as a 2019 recipient of the Young Construction Engineer Award from the UK Department of Civil Engineering.”
Currently, Nick is responsible for managing, coordinating and reviewing the design, engineering, estimating and scheduling of both conceptual and lump sum proposal submissions. Nick not only directs the overall proposal preparation, but is also responsible for subcontractor procurement, customer acceptance and final contract negotiations.
“Nick is a terrific leader and an even better person. His drive, work ethic and desire to be the best are just a few of the numerous reasons why he has been such a vital member of the Gray family,” says Stephen Gray, president and CEO of Gray.
In his more than 15 years with Gray, Nick has played an important role in several projects including, but not limited to: Mercedes-Benz, Landmark Ceramics, MöllerTech and Austal. Nick was also instrumental in the development and expansion of Gray’s Southeast office in Birmingham, Ala. where he led teams in several successful award-winning projects.
