Gray Construction Supports Lexington’s Gold Star Families Memorial Monument
Gray Construction was honored to participate in a special ceremony held today to unveil a memorial monument for Gold Star Families of Lexington, Kentucky. Gold Star Families are those who have lost a family member in the line of duty in military service. Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, Blue Core Charity and the newly formed Lexington Gold Star Memorial Committee are responsible for bringing this monument in Lexington. The purpose of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is to honor Gold Star Families, preserve the memory of the fallen and stand as a stark reminder that Freedom is not free.
Gray Construction provided the planning, site work and concrete for the monument located in Veteran’s Park in Lexington.
“This extraordinary monument will stand as a reminder of the great sacrifices of all of those who have served our country,” said Lexington Mayor Jim Gray during the ceremony.
The monument took four months to manufacture once designs were finalized. Its location was selected to cast a shadow through the missing soldier space within the monument during sunset.
