Manufacturing trends, government efforts, and site selection needs are just a few of the topics Area Development discussed recently with our CEO Stephen Gray. Five years ago, the magazine interviewed former CEO, Jim Gray, who is now the mayor of Lexington, Ky.

In the five-year span, Gray Construction has witnessed a number of changes and developments both internally and externally. The 2008 recession is among the most notable of these events, as Stephen pointed out in the article.

“We held onto our resources that would allow us to take advantage of the market when the economy recovered, and had confidence that manufacturing would turn around,” he explained to Area Development. “In 2010 it did, and 2011, 2012, and 2013 were our best years ever.”

“We’re certainly experiencing an uptick in the demand for new manufacturing plants, not only for the domestic manufacturing companies coming back to the U.S. due to reshoring, but there’s also big demand from foreign companies wanting to locate new manufacturing plants in the U.S.,” he added.

Stephen goes on to detail the trends that Gray is seeing, especially from foreign investment, and why he is optimistic in further growth for American manufacturing.
