Gray Celebrates Grand Opening for Clemens Food Group’s New Meat Operation

Gray, a fully integrated, global services provider specializing in engineering, design, construction, operational improvements, digital, equipment manufacturing, and real estate services with decades of experience in the food & beverage market, and Clemens Food Group, a sixth generation family owned pork business, celebrated the grand opening of a new, smoked meats processing facility in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.

In Numbers

  • Hatfield, PA
  • 308,000 s.f.
    Square Footage
  • 15 months

Clemens, a vertically-coordinated pork processor, selected Gray to design and build its new 308,000 s.f. expansion to its Hatfield campus.

This is the second successful project collaboration for Gray and Clemens. Gray also designed and built the company’s first greenfield operation in Coldwater, Michigan.

The Hatfield greenfield facility is designed with superior segregation and sanitation controls  for the separation of incoming raw ingredients to the finished Ready-To-Eat (RTE) products. Gray also designed and built an isolated viewing corridor for customers of the RTE process lines. In addition, the new operation features a 4,800-ton ammonia refrigeration system to support the process.

“This project is another testament to the excellence created when relationships are at the forefront,” says Stephen Gray, president and CEO, Gray, Inc. “Our team and the Clemens team are like family. Through this relationship we were able to navigate the challenges of not only a traditional project, but also the added pressures of Covid-19, and still create a great facility.”

Owning brands such as Hatfield, Farm Promise, and Premium Reserve, Clemens is the fifth largest pork processor in the U.S. The new operation will allow an increase of production to better serve its customers across the country.

The Hatfield North Expansion project is key to the growth of our company and our impact on the communities where we live and work. It utilizes best-in-class quality and food safety systems and design to provide our customers with high quality, innovative products. We are thankful to each and every person who helped build this excellent facility.”

The ceremony featured a number of special guests, including Pennsylvania State Representative Steve Malagari, Pennsylvania State Senator Maria Collett, Vice President of Hatfield Board of Commissioners Bob Rodgers, and County Commissioner Barb Zimmerman.
