Ribbon Cutting for Whirlpool Tenn. Manufacturing Plant

On April 11, 2012, Whirlpool Corporation officially cut the ribbon on its new 1,550,283 s.f. manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Tenn. The new facility, pursuing LEED Gold certification, will produce state of the art built-in cooktops, ovens and stoves. The ribbon cutting ceremony came just 20 months after Whirlpool unveiled their ambitious strategy to build a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Jeff M. Fettig, chairman and CEO of Whirlpool Corporation addressed the crowd of more than a hundred government representatives, community leaders and a variety of Whirlpool employees at the ceremony. The event’s guest speaker was U.S. Secretary of Commerce John Bryson.
Gray will continue to work on the Whirlpool campus on two additional projects, a 421,911 s.f. distribution center and a 53,345 s.f. testing lab. Both projects will pursue LEED Gold certification. The distribution center will be complete in late 2012 and the testing lab in 2013.
Gray has built numerous projects in Tennessee for customers including Akebono; Gap; Johnson Controls, Inc. and NHK Seating of America, Inc. The nationally ranked engineering, design and construction firm currently has several large projects, mostly located across the South, that are underway or recently completed including eight projects for Volkswagen on their Chattanooga, Tenn. campus; a Caterpillar, Inc. manufacturing facility in Winson-Salem, North Carolina; a Caterpillar, Inc. manufacturing facility near Athens, Ga.; a Siemens gas turbine plant in Charlotte, North Carolina; a Whirlpool plant in Cleveland, Tenn.; and multiple projects for Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama.
