Big Ass Fans Receives "Build Kentucky" Honors from Associated General Contractors of Kentucky

On Friday, April 11, 2014, Big Ass Fans, a Gray Construction customer, was honored with a 2013 Build Kentucky award from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Kentucky. The award was given for Big Ass Fans’ worldwide headquarters in the design-build $5-$10 million category.

The new 84,594 s.f. headquarters for Big Ass Fans sits on 32 acres of land located in central Kentucky conveniently near two major interstates. The site also occupies the company’s 44,000 s.f. research and development facility, also a Gray project, and the first testing facility of its kind.

Similar to the company name and advertising initiatives, the construction and building components of Big Ass Fans are bold and unique to truly reflect the company’s contemporary brand and products. The complex architectural design also allows for future expansion of the facility.

Big Ass Fans was recognized during the 24th Annual Build Kentucky Awards held at the Lexington Center in downtown Lexington, Ky. The ceremony was attended by numerous executives and partners of Kentucky’s industrial construction industry.

The AGC of Kentucky hosts Build Kentucky annually to celebrate and recognize contractors for excellence in construction for industrial and commercial facilities. The judges selected the 2013 Build Kentucky winners based on excellence in customer service; meeting the challenge of a difficult project; excellence in project management; and innovations in construction technologies and materials.

Gray Construction, a nationally ranked engineering, architecture and construction firm, was selected to provide design-build services for Big Ass Fans. The company has over 54 years of experience in manufacturing, automotive, food and beverage, distribution, hospitality and retail facility construction. Currently, Gray has several large projects that are underway or recently completed including: a Michelin Earthmover tire manufacturing plant in Anderson, S.C.; a Caterpillar Inc. manufacturing facility near Athens, Ga.; a Siemens gas turbine plant in Charlotte, N.C.; a Roxul, Inc. manufacturing facility in Byhalia, Miss.; and a manufacturing plant for ZF Transmissions in Gray Court, S.C.
