Spec Team Spot Spotlight: Gabriel Tovar

Gabriel Tovar, Controls Engineer at Spec Engineering, celebrated his one-year anniversary with Spec in September. Gabriel is responsible for creating automated and electrical solutions. Day-to-day he works on many different projects and works with customers to keep projects moving, whether it is electrical/systems design, PLC programming, or just searching for alternative components. He also works very closely with the electrical panel shop for extra engineering support on any issues they need resolving when working on panels. He started off in the office and now is also sent to take on field projects.

Gabriel’s favorite part of his job is coming up with solutions for customers and being able to see a project develop from the drawing board to a running system. From his time being at Spec, he has been exposed to many projects. “Each project has provided their own challenges, and each time the company is able to overcome the challenges and learn new tactics to overcome the next ones in new projects,” he said. When asked to describe Spec in one phrase, he said, “’Exciting!’ Each day I come into work I learn something new and exciting.”

His most memorable experience with Spec since he’s started is that he’s had the opportunity to go to the field with almost every team member part of the automation group. “Every time I am in the field I am exposed to different problem-solving methods and see how different issues are resolved,” he said.
