Gray provided architecture, construction, equipment procurement, and MEP engineering for the modular, open-air chemical processing facility. Gray also set the customer’s 5-story pipe racks and handled all piping and connections from the racks to the processing modules and utility supply points.
Japan-based fabricator Morimatsu manufactured the processing modules and provide multi-transit logistics solutions. In addition to providing design-build services, Gray oversaw the quality program for the fabrication and coordinated logistics for delivery, which included the construction of a temporary barge facility on the Mississippi River as well as a temporary bridge over the levee and road.
Construction of the facility and modules required more than 1,800 helical piles for deep foundations and more than 6,400 metric tons of steel. The facility features a 34,000 GPM cooling tower, onsite wastewater and waste gas treatment systems, and specially rated fire protection systems.
When at peak operation, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 140,000 metric tons of high-purity linear carbonate solvents DMC and EMC.
