On Wednesday, August 25th, John Fernandez, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, toured Hutchinson, Kansas. The tour included a visit to Gray’s nacelle manufacturing project for Siemens that is currently underway. He announced a $2.4 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the city of Newton, Kan., to make roadway improvements that will serve the Kansas Logistics Park. “This EDA grant will help bring alternative energy manufacturing jobs to the city of Newton, helping to grow the local economy,” Fernandez said.

During Fernandez’ visit to the Siemens nacelle production facility, Patrick McCowen, Gray Construction Project Manager, and Jim Sermon, Gray Construction Assistant Site Manager, addressed the group and explained the particulars of the facility that Gray is building for Siemens. They touched on items such as seeking LEED Gold Certification as well as new products that have been introduced to U.S. construction that will be installed in this Siemens facility such as the Teqton slab and new glass material from Sage.
