Included in the Family, Even from Home: Q&A with Integration Manager Troy Woodard

As businesses grow and environments change, operations are required to adapt to meet the new climate. Continued success and growth within Gray has created a demand to consistently find new, highly talented individuals to join the team. Add to that the strange circumstances created by Covid, and it creates an opportunity to expand in unique ways. One of those ways is by adding work-from-home options. We spoke with Troy Woodard, integration manager with Gray, about joining the Gray family, remotely, the advantages to joining Gray, and his most memorable experience.

Describe your normal workday.

“I am 100% remote, so I get to make my boys’ lunch and send them out the door to start my day. I like to take them to school a couple days a week and greet them when they get home. My commute is about 30 seconds into the office. And during virtual meetings, I rely on you using your camera, otherwise I am left talking to the cats!

I like to touch base with all my design managers and project managers on a weekly basis to have a pulse on progress and any customer issues we may be navigating. The rest of my time is spent developing tools and ways the integration team can bring value to every project.”

Since you started with the company, how has it changed in your opinion?

“During the interview process, team members could not stop talking about the familial nature of the business, and how Gray makes every effort to follow the Golden Rule with team members and customers. I wrote it off as actual practice—chalking that up as contractor talk for making the most money possible. But, as I have gotten to meet more and more people, from trade partners to different offices, there is a commonality among everyone – doing the right thing, including being a good person.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“I enjoy working with such talented people and getting to interact with every aspect of the company to deliver great solutions to our customers.”

In one word or phrase, how would you describe Gray?

“Family!”

What does being a part of the Gray family mean to you?

“I can honestly tell customers we are looking for partners to be part of our family and deliver great projects.”

What has been the most memorable experience with Gray since you started?

“Being welcomed into the office, as if I was walking into someone’s home – open arms and great big smiles.”

"As I have gotten to meet more and more people, from trade partners to different offices, there is a commonality among everyone – doing the right thing, including being a good person."
