On September 29, 2014, Gray Construction was awarded a Tilt-Up Achievement Award from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) for its Big Ass Fans design-build project. Gray was recognized with the honor at the 24th annual Tilt-Up Awards Gala in San Jose, Calif., for the unique use of Tilt-Up on Big Ass Fans’ new headquarters.
Big Ass Fans, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., is a manufacturer of high-volume, low-speed fans. Due to the company’s rapid growth rate, Big Ass Fans needed a new 84,594 s.f. office that allowed for even further expansion in the future.
Gray was selected to design and build this new structure while adhering to a tight budget and aggressive schedule. To meet these demands, the project required close communication. Using the design model and extracting the tilt wall panel dimensional and embed placement plan for field quality control construction was key. It ensured that the complex site cast tilt wall panels were fabricated to tight tolerance and exact dimensions. Fabrication issues were minimal and tilt wall construction and erection were completed within the preset construction schedule at the agreed upon cost to the customer.
Gray also provided design-build services on Big Ass Fans’ Research & Development Center.
Each year at their annual convention, the TCA honors people, projects and organizations that have successfully demonstrated Tilt-Up construction. According to their website, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association awards program highlights both the people and the projects that illustrate the unique ability Tilt-Up provides to execute jobs easier, faster and with less monetary investment.
