As Whirlpool Corporation celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the company is constructing a massive new manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Tenn., just seven miles away from its existing plant. This new facility — the single largest investment Whirlpool has made in its 100-year history of manufacturing in America — will feature more than 1.5 million square feet of modern production space, to manufacture premium cooking products.

Whirlpool selected Gray Construction, ranked 5th among the top green contractors in manufacturing plant construction, to design and build the new plant. The new plant will be a LEED-Gold certified facility, which is among the highest ratings for this internationally recognized green building certification system. Production is expected to begin in early 2012 after phase I of the construction is completed. The full plant is projected for completion in 2013.

Whirlpool is the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances. Since November 11, 2010, Whirlpool has been celebrating their 100th anniversary with a series of events designed to commemorate their past and future. The celebration will continue until November 11, 2011.
