Comprehensive Design for New Plant and Processes.
Spec Engineering, a Gray company, completed a Front-End Loading (FEL) Phase 1 for pet food manufacturer Instinct at a facility in Lincoln, NE, to evaluate the operation’s growth opportunities at a greenfield location.
The FEL-1 reviewed current processes and proposed the best layout and design for moving them—as well as accounting—to allow for future growth. The customer’s concept was translated into a cohesive design for a plant layout including drawings and 3D models for equipment, processes, electrical loads, and utilities. The design included tempering, freeze drying, HPP, research & development, warehouse storage, and a new production area utilizing dehydration and refrigeration elements.
Spec Engineering worked with equipment vendors to properly specify equipment for the proposed layout along with following GMP, FSMA, and NFPA 652 regulations. Upon completion of the FEL-1, Instinct established a budget for the next project phase, along with a refined facility footprint for quoting. When completed, this Centre of Excellence facility will provide best-in-show practices and tours for customers and partners.
