NBC News highlights Southern Manufacturing Boom

There is continuing good news for manufacturing activity in the Southern USA, according to a recent story by NBC News.  Gray’s industrial design-build customers were well-represented among companies profiled in the article, many adding hundreds to their workforce as demand and economic factors favor their expansion.

Austal USA, featured in the video above, has increased their workforce from 800 to 3,300 in just two years at their Gray-built, 853,000 s.f. module manufacturing facility located in Mobile, Alabama.  Austal is a manufacturer of high speed marine vessels for the U.S. Navy. 

 

Germany’s BMW, another Gray manufacturing facility customer mentioned in the article, has announced plans to increase their workforce by 300 in Greer, S.C.  This high-tech facility represents the largest BMW automotive manufacturing facility outside of Germany. Also in South Carolina, Michelin plans to continue expanding tire manufacturing facilities.

 

More manufacturing job growth is occurring at multiple Gray-constructed facilities for Caterpillar Inc. Their 850,000 s.f. axle manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, N.C. will employ 510 once fully operational. Caterpillar will also employ 1,400 more workers in Athens, Ga. at their small track-type tractor and mini excavator manufacturing facility.

 

Also in North Carolina, Siemens Energy Inc. will utilize the Gray-built manufacturing facility in the construction of gas turbines employing more than 700. 

 

All totaled, these Gray-built manufacturing facilities will house more than 5,500 workers.
