The Siemens US Nacelle facility was complete in December, 2010. The 289,842 s.f. manufacturing plant produces nacelles, 90-ton oblong steel structures that are perched atop wind turbine towers to house mechanical and electrical systems. The structure is designed to carry heavy loads to allow the movement of nacelles throughout the building. This facility was the first project in the US to utilize a Teqton jointless, maintenance-free floor slab. Siemens received LEED Gold Certification for this project in September, 2011, making it their first LEED® Gold certified production facility in the U.S. and the first LEED® Gold new construction/industrial site in Kansas.
