Gray Featured in Commercial Property Executive

Gray Construction was recently featured in a Commercial Property Executive article on the future of EC glass panels. EC, dynamic electrochromic glazing, is coated glass that allows property operators to optimize solar heat gain for prevailing conditions – without losing daylighting benefits. EC installations can reduce HVAC and lighting costs by 20 to 40 percent.
Randall Vaughn, Gray’s vice president, architecture, explained the benefits of using this technology. Siemens Energy, Inc.’s wind energy Nacelle production facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, a Gray project, featured a 4,900 s.f. EC-equipped façade on the west-facing wall of the office portion, allowing for variable tinting in 30 distinct zones. After a year of operation, the EC installation is performing as expected and has proven to be the most cost-effective system for this specific condition.
