Embracing the Future: Q&A with Project Executive Fred Johnson
It’s an exciting time to be a part of the Gray family. Our commitment to building cohesive teams would not be possible without cultivating the best and brightest talent from across the globe – all with unique backgrounds, skillsets, and ideas.
Fred Johnson, project executive at Gray and an Arizona native, is a perfect example of just that. As Gray opens its doors in the vibrant and thriving region of Phoenix, he plays a pivotal role in building relationships and establishing Gray’s presence in the marketplace. We sat down with Fred to learn more about his career, Gray’s Talent Hub initiative, and his vision for the future in the Valley of the Sun.
Describe your normal workday–your “day in the life.”
My days are always exciting and different as Gray establishes a presence in the Arizona community. I get to meet and build strong partnerships with potential customers and subcontractors in the market, and share Gray’s story as we help grow our Phoenix Talent Hub. It is a very exciting time! I’m looking forward to our growth in Arizona and the Southwest.
What unique capabilities does Gray Southwest provide, and how do they complement Gray’s overall service offering?
New team members will bring energy, ideas, and experience within the Phoenix Talent Hub; this will also expand our already successful and emerging advanced technology market sector.
Do you have a motto or phrase that you live by?
You never know what will happen tomorrow, so appreciate everyone in your life and make the best of everything as if it was your last day.
What do you enjoy most about your work at Gray?
The people and the culture are what make work so enjoyable and not feel like a job. The opportunity to bring Gray to Arizona and being the first team member here is also very exciting.
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever been given?
One piece of valuable advice I’ve been given is just how much you can learn from listening to others and observing your peers.
What has been your most memorable experience since joining the Gray Family?
I have been pulled onto project teams where everyone was so energetic, fun, and respectful. It is truly like a family.
What do you think sets Gray apart from other service providers in the industry?
Our customer relationships are our number one priority and always genuine.
If someone was visiting where you live, what would you recommend to them as a “must-do?”
Arizona is more than just desert and hot summer weather! There are so many things to see.
The dense forest in the northern part of the state and the beautiful canyon lakes formed by the dams on the Salt River are must-sees. The urban hiking of Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak and South Mountain are also all accessible and a quick 30-min drive from the city. As for restaurants and entertainment—the options are unlimited! And if you’re a golfer, we have some of the best courses in the country.
