ACI Kansas Awards Gray Project for Technical Innovation

ACI Kansas Awards

The Kansas Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) presented Gray the 2010 Technical Innovation in Concrete award at their awards banquet on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. The award was for the innovative and unique application of the roller-compacted concrete interior slab system at the Siemens Energy, Inc. project in Hutchinson, Kansas. The subcontractor, Teqton Inc, and concrete suppliers, Mid-America Redi-Mix Inc. and Mark Twain Redi-Mix Inc., were joint recipients of the award as well as Siemens Energy, Inc.

Siemens celebrated the grand opening of the 277,000 s.f. wind energy Nacelle production facility in December 2010. The complex manufacturing plant is a structure designed to carry heavy loads to allow the movement of nacelles throughout the building. Teqton, a joint-less, maintenance free floor slab was installed in this facility – making it the first of its kind in the U.S.

Gray Construction, ranked 6th among the Top Manufacturing Contractors and 2nd among the Top Green Contractors in Manufacturing, provided architecture, construction management, civil, electrical, mechanical and structural engineering and LEED management application for this project. Gray is aiming for LEED® Gold Certification.

ACI Kansas is a volunteer driven group whose membership includes over 150 architects, engineers, educators, manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and others with an interest in concrete.
