Establishing Roots in the U.S.

Otsuka Chemical Co., Ltd. is a diversified Japanese chemical manufacturer that offers products for a wide range of applications, including the automotive, construction, and pharmaceutical industries.

When Otsuka decided to expand operations with its first manufacturing plant in the U.S., the customer turned to Gray as its design-build partner for the facility’s construction and later expansion in Spalding County, GA.

Repeating Success

The original 50,707 s.f. greenfield plant is located on a 35-acre site at Georgia’s first eco-friendly park. The facility manufactures Terracess, a titanate material used to create friction on automotive brake pads.

Three years after the original project, Otsuka turned to its proven design-build partner to expand the facility. The 40,690 s.f. addition served as a warehouse until Otsuka integrated additional Kilns and Modules for more production capabilities.

In addition to delivering design-build services, Gray also provided MEP engineering, packaging & processing systems engineering, and procurement & installation services for the customer’s utilities and process equipment.
