Jim
Gray
Jim Gray, one of the second-generation Gray brothers who helped build the family-owned company, began working at a young age on his father’s jobsites in and around Glasgow, Kentucky. After his father’s untimely death in 1972, Jim worked alongside his brother, Howard, and his mother, Lois, to advance the business while completing college. In the difficult years that followed, the family rebuilt and recapitalized the company, establishing a durable foundation for long-term growth.
Jim went on to establish the company’s sales and marketing functions, lead its expansion into the Japanese market, and champion the design-build approach, including conceiving the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and becoming a co-founder. He later became Chief Executive Officer and now serves as Chairman of the Board.
In addition to his work with Gray, Jim has served as Mayor of Lexington (2011–2019) and Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (2020-current).
