Gray Family Walking to Make a Difference

Alzheimer’s disease is relentless. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease, and in the U.S., someone develops the disease every 65 seconds. These startling statistics are the reason Gray has been committed to the fight against Alzheimer’s for more than ten years.

Rita Clark, Gray Application Support Administrator and Alzheimer’s Gray Team Captain identifies her work with the Alzheimer’s Association and involvement in the Walk Committee as her therapy in coping with her mother’s arduous experience with the disease. “Our part in the walk helps to provide funding for families to benefit from the resources the Association has available through training and support groups and to offer other individuals the priceless support that I received,” said Clark. Since 2006, Gray has participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an event that raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s patient care, support and research. This cause is personal for many at Gray, as several team members have loved ones that are or have been affected by the disease. In fact, Gray’s co-founder and the Gray family matriarch Lois Howard Gray lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease on March 19, 2012.

After caring for his father throughout his hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s, Gary Hisel, Senior Design Manager at Gray, said his involvement now is “… in hoping that [the disease] never touches me again like it did with my dad.”

In 2017, Gray was named the 2nd place top fundraising corporate team who participated in the 2017 Lexington Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Gray walks to support the 5 million+ Americans living with the disease and to fight for a cure for the relentless disease.

Additionally, Gray participates in Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month (ABAM) in June and National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in November each year.
