Willett Goes to the Capitol

We’re not saying our boss is cooler than your boss. But we’re not not saying it.

Is your boss a stellar volunteer in your community? And did your boss recently participate in a super successful fundraiser for your local high school (go Parkview Panthers)? And did your boss get an invitation to visit the state Capitol with the chair of the Senate Education and Youth Committee, and did your boss invite you to come along?

And on top of all that, did your boss get named an Outstanding Georgia Citizen by the Secretary of State?

Well, that’s what our boss Mac Willett did. We think that’s pretty cool.

Five of us went downtown to the Capitol with Mac last week. State Senator P.K. Martin and his staff hosted our visit, and they could not have been nicer.

Senator Martin took us to the Governor’s office for a photo. Check it out – we look right at home if we do say so ourselves!

We popped into the Senate to watch the legislative process at work, and Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan took a quick break from swinging the gavel to shake hands and take a photo with us.

Then we stopped by the Secretary of State’s office where Senator Martin surprised Mac with the Outstanding Georgia Citizen award. It was so great to see the smile on Mac’s face when he was presented with the certificate.

We are all so proud of him – he certainly deserves this recognition. Mac has served his community in so many ways, including many years volunteering for Parkview High School and the YMCA. He’s offered his leadership as a past president of the local Rotary and board member of several nonprofit organizations. Plus, as the founder, president and principal engineer of Willett Engineering, he’s led many valuable projects for our state. We’ve built public schools and government facilities all over Georgia, and we’ve helped preserve important and beautiful historical structures. If anyone is an outstanding Georgian, Mac is.

As if all that weren’t enough, Mac spent the rest of the visit proving his outstanding citizenship by regaling us with his knowledge of Georgia history as we toured the museum portion of the Capitol and the portrait galleries.

All in all, it was a great experience in Georgia citizenry for all of us. Congratulations, Mac – thanks for all you do and for bringing us along to share in this day!
