HEARD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
This new Elementary School in Macon, Georgia for the Bibb County Board of Education contains over 90,000 sq. ft. on one level. The facility houses 46 classrooms for kindergarten through 5th grade, and includes a gymnasium, cafeteria with outdoor dining area, kitchen, media center, computer center, faculty offices and support areas. The new school building replaces the original Heard Elementary School on the same site, and which was demolished upon completion of the new facility.
Spencer Bristol Engineering provided design and construction administration services for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
An important feature of the HVAC systems was the inclusion of dedicated outdoor air systems for the classroom wings which provide continuous fresh air for ventilation with full heat recovery from the building’s exhaust systems and which included a manual override switch in the administration offices to close the outdoor dampers in the event of a chemical spill from freight trains on a nearby railroad track.
