Adam Froehlich, design manager at Spec Engineering, a Gray company, celebrated his five-year anniversary with Spec in May. When Adam first started at Spec as a mechanical design drafter, there were around 15 employees. With over 75 team members now, Adam has seen the Spec team grow both internally along with the scope of projects.
As design manager, Adam strives to spend fifty percent of his time designing for the larger scopes of work on the schedule while spending the other half of his time training his design team on standards and best practices. Adam is responsible for launching the Product Data Management (PDM) Vault which allows his team to collaborate on projects so multiple team members can work on the same project without any problems.
When asked what Adam enjoyed most about his job, he responded with “listening to the customer’s pain points, digging into the project details, and delivering a system that exceeds the customer’s expectations.” Besides overseeing the design department, Adam often finds himself traveling to site to provide support during installation and commissioning. “One of my most memorable experiences was spending two weeks in Arkansas installing a syrup blending system. We had ten days to get the system completely installed, so it was a stressful but rewarding time with the team,” says Adam. “My favorite part of the job is designing unique systems, exceeding customer expectations, and providing leadership and guidance to my team.”
