SPEC Builds Panning Skid for Major Global Confectionery Company

SPEC Engineering, in our partnership with HMC Manufacturing, designed and built a polishing pan skid system for a Major Global Confectionery Company.

A custom polishing pan design with discharge valves was combined with an integrated drying/dust collection system for a complete unit that could fit in a shipping container for delivery to Asia. On a Siemens platform, the polishing pan process is completely automated and can be started up with a fraction of the time of on-site commissioning.

Meet Kevin Laud,
SPEC Project Manager

Kevin Laud has been working as a Mechanical Engineer for 4 years and has been at SPEC for the past 3 years.

Kevin grew up in Tinley Park, IL. As a child, he was always building things: bike ramps, treehouses, snow making machines, go-carts, Legos, etc. Becoming an M.E. was just a natural extension of Kevin’s propensity to build things he thought were cool.
He attended University of Illinois at Chicago and majored in Mechanical Engineering which is what led him to his career at SPEC.  SPEC’s small size business is what attracted him to the company. He liked the “can-do” attitude that you don’t find at larger, multi-national companies. He also likes working at an engineering company rather than a manufacturer because it allows him to work on more varied projects.
When Kevin is not at work, he enjoys traveling, music, and brunch. He currently resides in Ukrainian Village in Chicago, IL. Three interesting facts about Kevin are:

  • He has never had a cavity.
  • He has visited 45 of 50 states and has been to the highest point in 13 of 50 states and plans to add 2 or 3 states/year.
  • He once went to Canada for lunch and then came back to the USA.

SPEC is excited as Kevin takes on his new role of Project Manager here!
