PowerLight - University of California, Berkeley
Photovoltaic Solar Array System.
Gray was selected to install a 60-kilowatt, roof-mounted photovoltaic solar array on the University of California Berkeley’s 60,000 s.f. student union building for PowerLight, now a Sun Power company. The system was the first solar system installed at a University of California campus and, since that time, the University has installed solar power systems on several campus buildings at Berkeley, as well as its other campuses.

This system is a full electrical power conversion from DC to AC and required an electrical tie-in to the building’s power system and the local utility power grid. On average, the solar array generates nearly all the energy needed to operate the facility.
