Gray Southeast Office Opens Doors on New Location in Downtown Birmingham

In an open house celebration, Gray Construction’s Southeast Regional Office welcomed guests to its newly renovated office space located at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 18th Street in downtown Birmingham. The event served as an official kick-off to Gray’s continued commitment to the southeast region.

Southeast Regional Office Celebrates Open House

“It is with great pride that we bring friends, neighbors and partners in the community into our new home,” said Patrick McCowan, regional manager of Gray Construction’s Southeast Office. “We could not be happier with the location and know it will allow us to grow in order to continue meeting current and new customer needs into the future.”

Ranked among Alabama’s top general contractors by Birmingham Business Journal, the Gray Southeast Office was previously located in the North 20th Street Building but quickly outgrew its capacity. Formerly known as the historic Booker T. Washington Insurance Co. building, the new location in the heart of the Theatre District has been renovated for maximum functionality while preserving the beauty and significance of the original structure.

Gray partnered with A.G. Gaston Design for the interior and the exterior redesign, which focused on accommodating a modern and open work environment. Some new features include a steel structure to square off the building and allow additional square footage and functionality within the space, a new staircase connecting the first and second floors to create a collaborative working atmosphere and an architectural rebar wall to convey industrial aesthetics, among many other elements. The memorial star honoring A.G. Gaston, an Alabama business leader who established a number of companies in Birmingham and played a significant role in the city being integrated in 1963, was safely removed during construction and reinstalled on the sidewalk outside the building.

Guests at the open house included state and local government officials and a host of friends, partners and customers.

“It’s exciting to see Gray Construction’s Southeast Regional Office come to fruition in the revitalized Theatre District downtown,” said Birmingham Mayor William Bell, Sr. “This redevelopment alone will no doubt create a tremendous impact on growing business in this region.”
