The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) honored winners of its 20th annual design-build Project/Team awards during a special ceremony held Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the 2015 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Denver, Colo. The Michelin North America, Inc. Red Oak manufacturing facility located in Anderson, S.C., was awarded a 2015 National Award of Merit in the Industrial, Process and/or Research Facilities category.

The 792,063 s.f. facility manufactures earthmover tires and was completed in just 15 months, more than 50 days ahead of schedule. Michelin North America, Inc., a global leader in tire manufacturing, selected Gray Construction to provide design-build services for this facility.

“We’re so pleased to have received this national honor,” said Stephen Gray, CEO of Gray Construction. “This project was Gray’s first with Michelin North America, Inc., and I believe this award is evidence of the hard work and dedication our team commited to Michelin.”

“We look forward to continuing to meet Michelin’s manufacturing plant construction needs in the U.S.,” he added.

The award-winning projects were evaluated by a distinguished panel of industry experts and were recognized for exemplary collaboration and integration in design-build project delivery.

“To win a National Design-Build Project/Team Award, projects must not only achieve budget and schedule goals, but also demonstrate advanced and innovative application of design-build best practices,” said Lisa Washington, CAE, Executive Director/CEO of DBIA. “This year’s winning projects exemplify Design-Build Done Right in their design-build process, excellence in design, and extraordinary teaming performance. The jury’s difficulty in choosing winners demonstrates how much design-build expertise has expanded since we started the awards program in 1996.”

Several Gray Construction team members attended the awards ceremony including (from left to right) Vice President, South Atlantic Office Brett Goode, Project Director Patrick McCowan and Senior Design Manager Chris Crovo.
