Toys for Tots Donation Ceremony at CVS/pharmacy Chemung Distribution Center

CVS/pharmacy hosted a donation ceremony Tuesday, December 8 at 1:00 PM at the construction site of its Chemung Distribution Center in Chemung County, New York to benefit the local Head Start preschool program.

The U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program was on hand with a 7-ton military truck filled with toys that will be donated to the Catholic Charities’ Samaritan Center. The toys will be distributed to children who attend the Chemung County Head Start preschool program. Workers at the CVS construction site also donated money to fund the purchase of toys for this program. CVS/pharmacy and Gray Construction matched these donations. The total donation collected was $8,535.

Toys for Tots is a United States Marine Reserve charity program that began in 1947. Since it’s creation, Toys for Tots has distributed over 400 Million toys to more than 188 Million less fortunate children.

Once complete, the new 750,000 square-foot CVS/pharmacy distribution center will support the inventory and fulfillment needs of approximately 350 CVS/pharmacy stores in the region. It’s expected to employ about 600 people after it becomes operational in 2011.
