Inclusion
Where the Best Want to Belong.
Gray is a place where all are welcome and all are respected.
Here, we work to ensure that anyone who joins the Gray community—regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity—feels valued, finds belonging, and develops a fruitful career.
Supporting diversity and inclusion is not only the right thing to do, but it makes our business better. Diversity of team members and thought fuels innovation, offers new perspectives, and challenges old ways of problem solving. Our commitment to diversity is woven into our every day, and we believe our company is strongest when we embrace the full spectrum of humanity.
Employee-Driven Cooperatives
Gray’s Employee-Driven Cooperatives (EDCs), also known as employee resource groups (ERGs), are voluntary, team member-led groups that aim to foster an inclusive workforce focused on supporting and developing team members.
The purpose of EDCs is to enhance Gray’s culture by providing platforms that cultivate a sense of community, trust, and belonging. They allow us to better serve our customers by supporting ideas and solutions. All team members are empowered to identify an area of need and establish their own EDC with other like-minded peers. Today, our EDCs include Emerging Leaders’ Group, SPEAR, and Groundbreaking Women.
Gray’s Groundbreaking Women is an Employee-Driven Cooperative that was founded in 2016 with the purpose of impacting our company, the community, and each other through a shared commitment to drive change and build future leaders. This group provides the women of Gray an opportunity to connect, engage, and support one another.
Recruiting for the Future
Gray is committed to hiring the best and brightest team members—all with unique backgrounds, skillsets, and ideas. We partner with inclusive organizations, top-tier institutions, and schools around the country to find passionate and talented individuals to join us.
Gray partners with ACE Mentor Program (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) to visit schools around the country, from colleges and universities to middle schools and high schools. Here, we believe recruiting starts with fostering the talent of the future—educating the younger generations on opportunities available in our industries and empowering them to get involved early.
Since Gray’s inception, the company’s legacy has been inextricably linked to our nation’s veterans, with founder James Norris Gray and his wife Lois Howard Gray both serving in the U.S Navy. With more than 100 former service members on our team and having partnered with organizations such as Save A Warrior and Children of Fallen Patriots, Gray is committed to hiring and supporting veterans who have selflessly served our nation. No matter what your story looked like before joining Gray, we have a place for you.
Construction-Specific Inclusion Initiatives
Gray partners with RISE Up (Respect, Inclusion, Safety, and Equity), a workplace campaign in the construction trades designed to provide all workers with the tools and support necessary to create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive environment.
These initiatives also extend to our business partners. Through our Subcontractor Diversity Initiative, we aim to expand our suppliers and partners and break down any barriers during the business process. Additionally, we actively seek opportunities to invest in women and minority-owned companies.
