3rd Annual Strike Out Hunger Bowling Night

SPEC’s 3rd annual charity event, strike out hunger, was on June 9th this year. The Strike Out Hunger bowling event benefits 4 anti-hunger organizations: Loaves & Fishes, Feeding Tomorrow, Green Harvest Food Pantry, and Feeding America. This bowling event was held at Pinstripes Bowling Alley in Oakbrook from 5-7pm. SPEC donated 1 dollar for every pin knocked down by all participants. Both SPEC employees and customers participated in our Strike Out Hunger bowling night.

The teams that participated in SPEC’s Strike Out Hunger event were Sweetener Supply, Rich Products, Fauske, Flavorchem, and St Charles. Rich products team one took second place followed closely by Fauske in 3rd place. St Charles took first place in the bowling tournament and got to donate the money in their company’s name.

In addition to the money raised, participants were asked to donate canned goods. The canned goods were donated to The Green Harvest Food Pantry. The Green Harvest Food Pantry is located across the street from SPEC’s office.

Strike Out hunger was a big success for its 3rd year in a row! It provided a fun opportunity to bowl with customers while giving back to the community.

About the organizations:

About Loaves and Fishes: Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that has served the Naperville area since 1984. Business and community partnerships are integral to the success of Loaves & Fishes, which serves all of DuPage County. In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013, 18,564 individuals visited 122,932 times and received 3,272,680 pounds of groceries. Additionally, our Pathways to Empowerment programs assist people with issues preventing them from being self-sufficient. These on-site programs are offered by partner agencies on topics such as English language proficiency, nutrition education, basic financial skills, job search support, income tax preparation, and public benefits enrollment.

About Feeding America: Our mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.

About Green Harvest Food Pantry: At Green Harvest, we feel that these uncertain times have led us toward aiding low-income families, retirees, and the workers of our community who have recently lost their jobs. We believe that there is a serious problem today when parents must decide between feeding, providing shelter, or buying medicine for their children.

Feeding Tomorrow: Since 1985, Feeding Tomorrow has worked to ensure that the vital work of food scientists continues and carries on to the next generation. Feeding Tomorrow has funded more than $10 million in food science programs and distributed more than 4,000 scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate food science degrees. In partnership with Discovery Education, Feeding Tomorrow provides food science resources to nearly 18,000 public high schools throughout the U.S.
