Amfine Chemical Corporation

Gray was chosen by Amfine Chemical Corporation to provide Chemical Plant Construction services. Asahi Denka Kogyo incorporated Amfine Chemical Corporation in March of 1994 for the purpose of better serving growing North and South American markets. In order to provide the "just in time" service required by today's growing plastics manufacturing companies, Amfine required a plant in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, serving the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region.

This 53,493 s.f. award-winning Kentucky plant produces numerous types of advanced plastic additives as well as PVC Stabilizers. Combined annual plant capacity is approximately 1,100 metric tons or 2,400,000 pounds. The ISO 9002 certified Amfine Kentucky plant is a shining example of Asahi Denkas technology and earned the 2001 National Design-Build Award of Excellence in the Best Project-Industrial / Process Sector by the Design-Build Institute of America.

In 2007 Amfine again chose Gray for a 3,000 s.f. expansion and modification project that was completed in just 4 months. The pre-engineered structure includes a conventional steel process platform and pipe bridge. Walls are insulated metal panels, floors are 8-inch concrete with double rebar mats and roofing is metal standing seam. HVAC includes a steam make-up air unit and wall mounted fans and louvers. Other building elements are a wet ESFR fire protection system and a new steam boiler. Gray's team provided architecture, construction management, civil, electrical, mechanical, structural and process engineering for this Chemical Plant Construction customer. Additionally, Gray procured and installed a 2,000 gallon stainless steel reactor, various pumps, filters, process piping, valves, controls and instruments.
