<p>Gray Construction, ranked 8^th among U.S. Top Automotive Facility Contractors, has been tapped by V-Vehicle to design, engineer and over see the construction of the first automotive assembly plant for V-Vehicle Company, a new startup American car company. </p><p>Gray will manage the construction which will double the existing facility for a total of 800,000 square-feet in Monroe, LA.&nbsp; The facility is a former General Motors plant that has been closed for several years.&nbsp; V-Vehicle will produce an environmentally-friendly and fuel-efficient vehicle designed by Tom Matano, who designed the Mazda Miata.&nbsp; Vehicle production is expected to begin in late 2010.</p><p>&quot;We&#39;re excited to have a role in this transformative project that so inspiringly illustrates the imagination of the American spirit,&quot; stated Stephen Gray, President and Chief Operating Officer of Gray Construction.</p><p>At a time when American automakers are decreasing production, closing dealerships and even filing for bankruptcy, V-Vehicle, a San Diego-based automaker, plans to enter the market.&nbsp; V-Vehicle is funded by a number of private investors including Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield &amp; Byer - which has funded companies such as Google, Amazon.com and Intel - and oil businessman T. Boone Pickens.</p><p>In addition to being ranked 8^th nationally for automotive plant construction, Gray Construction has overseen construction of more than 305 automotive facilities across the U.S. totaling more than 33.4 million square feet.
